South Downs Country Club

The Southdowns Country Club is located in the southern suburbs of Johannesburg, nestled among koppies and graced with ample bird-life.  The well-maintained parklands-style course, originally designed in 1934 by Bobby Verwey, has recently transformed its lay-out.  The Bloubos spruit winds through the course and provides the basis for ample water features.  This theme is most apparent on the signature par-3 5th hole, which is almost entirely surrounded by water.  The clubhouse has recently been upgraded and offers a refreshing end to a challenging, yet enjoyable round.

Located almost adjacent to the Klipriviersberg Nature Reserve there is an abundance of birdlife and a country feel about this course, even though these days it’s largely surrounded by residential development and is only a 20 minute drive from the Johannesburg CBD.South downs is a charming traditional layout that can challenge the better golfer while providing an enjoyable round for the casual golfer at the same time.
