In 1990 a Golf Course was born...building a golf course for the Department of Correctional services was the dream of Lt-General Koos van Zyl of DCS. Thru many negotiations and with great determination he eventually received the go-ahead from Brigadeer N.J. Nel in 1989. Lt-General van Zyl designed the course and a non-golfer Swannie Swanevelder became the actual builder of the course. On March the 23rd, 1990 Lt-General W.H. Willemse officially opened the golf course, and a beer mug was made to commemorate the event. Today that dream of Lt-General Koos van Zyl lives on, and Leeuwkop became one of the most affordable golf courses to play on, and become a member of, in the Northern parts of Jo'burg.
