Designed by Matkovich and Hayes Golf Course Architects, the Ebotse golf course features seven holes on the water and has been built to US PGA specifications with the course playing 6879 meters from the Professional tees. The Ebotse Golf & Country Estate course has been referred to as Peter Matkovich’s ‘little secret’. Since day one Peter Matkovich has said, ‘Ebotse is a wonderful opportunity to create an environmentally sensitive and balanced golf course, combining links, lakeside, and parkland’. The golf course development team moved 2 million square meters of earth to create what will undoubtedly be the most unique golf course to be built in Gauteng. The 40-hectare lake provides the tranquillity and contentment as only a body of water can. The abundance of birds breathe life into the estate every day. There are several aspects that make this golf course remarkable. The first, and most obvious, is its elevation. As a result of the natural terrain, Ebotse Golf & Country Estate has given Peter a unique sculpting gift. ‘With no additional sand required, I am able to simply use what already exists to create spectacular features such as tee shots from a height of 15 to 25 meters. Surrounding Rynfield lake, the golf course will boast a truly unique driving range in a man-made lake. The Estate will have a driving range never experienced by most golfers. Peter’s vision includes the very clever use of what once was a quarry. Dramatically transformed into a driving range, it will include several floating greens and will enable golfers to hit floating balls into the lake.
Ebotse Golf Club is a completely unique experience as highve...ld golf courses go. Although the golf club forms part of an estate, which certainly isn’t unique in Gauteng, that’s where the similarities with any other golf courses in Gauteng ends. Ebotse Golf Estate is designed as an inland links and the end result is a remarkable achievement! The undulating terrain and all the humps and hollows are almost entirely man made and one could be forgiven for forgetting from time to time that you are playing golf on an estate in the heart of Gauteng.Naturally the highveld climate, in summer in particular, doesn’t lend itself to keeping the course firm like you would expect from a true links layout but this gives Ebotse Golf Club its own unique charm as a hybrid of parkland, estate and links golf.Ebotse is an interesting challenge and you should be able to play a wide variety of shots, using every golf club in your arsenal to conquer it. Unusual to most golf estates, its seldom the out of bounds that will trouble you but more often the large mounds covered in knee high veld grass Read more
